Circle the City announces historic $6.1 million grant award to expand its healthcare services for people facing homelessness

PHOENIX, AZ – June 28, 2022 – Today Valley nonprofit Circle the City announced it has been
awarded a $6.1 million in grant funding to expand its healthcare services in the East Valley and
Downtown Phoenix. The grant is being awarded by Maricopa County in partnership with the
Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers (AACHC). The funding is in addition to $21.4
million the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved in April for development and/or
renovation of five community health center sites.

The grant award is designated for two projects. $5.6 million will go to build, purchase, or lease a
facility in the East Valley for a medical respite care center for people facing homelessness.
Circle the City currently operates two respite care centers in Phoenix, where patients facing
homelessness get a bed, meals, daily medical care, and other supportive services while
recovering from a serious illness or injury. Circle the City will also receive $501,656 to expand
its Downtown Family Health Center, where homeless patients can get primary and preventive
outpatient healthcare. The expansion of the Downtown Family Health Center will include adding
additional exam rooms and medical staff.

The grant award is the largest the nonprofit has ever received. “We are grateful to the Maricopa
County Board of Supervisors for granting us this much needed funding,” says Kim Despres,
Circle the City Chief Executive Officer. “It will go a long way towards helping us meet the
healthcare needs of a rapidly growing number of people facing homelessness in our
community.”
